The Next Generation of Higher Education Leaders

The modern HBCU is a complex and multi-dimensional teaching, learning and workplace environment. Effective leadership at HBCUs requires the skill of well-trained practitioners and academicians capable of expertly managing a range of persistent challenges, notably, declining enrollments, budget cuts, eroding public trust, fiscal limitations and aging infrastructures and physical plants. Simultaneously, HBCU leaders are increasingly called to reframe the narrative surrounding the relevance and effectiveness of historically black colleges and universities.

Producing Principled Senior Administrators

The H.E.L.F. Leadership Institute will address the role Fellows play as vital participants in the decision-making process at their respective institutions. In the effort to produce principled leaders who will be critical in shaping the future of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), the Leadership Institute will provide each Fellow a core set of leadership skills required to effectively and successfully lead and institution.

Applications for the Lambda Cohort are now closed.

The Leadership Institute will offer an intimate, interactive, professional, and personal development experience that provides each Fellow with a unique and valuable opportunity to assess personal vocation and leadership skill, reaffirm a continuing commitment to HBCUs and identify and enhance the essential qualities for a successful tenure as a principled and effective leader and senior administrator.
